The Best Places to Eat in Ludhiana - The Top Ten Restaurants and Bars.

Indian or Italian? Hot or cold? Eat in or take out? Veg or non veg? Buffet or A la carte? These are perhaps some of the questions that occur to you when deciding upon where to dine out in the vibrant city of Ludhiana लुधिअना।

If you've stumbled upon this blog you're probably wondering which are the best places to eat in Ludhiana. Over the past few years, new restaurants, fast food joints and bars have mushroomed in the city, offering both variety and sophistication to Ludhiana's already rich culture. I write on Quora, about health, food, family and education, travel extensively and also love eating out, so I thought I should write a blog about my restaurant experiences, starting with Ludhiana, where I have perhaps lived and still dine the most. I love to try out new places and still like to dine at the time tested restaurants.

Ludhiana hosts many of the popular brands, outlets, multiplexes and restaurants in its malls which are scattered around the city. The rising middle and upper middle class in Ludhiana are able to afford products and brands which were once considered as "luxury." The culture has become one of "keeping up with Joneses." Where one is trying their best to visit where their acquaintances have or own what their friends and family have.

The list will start from rank 10 up to the number 1 place to eat. The restaurants will be compared in terms of the food quality and variety, service, ambience, pricing, seating space and any USPs. Hotel restaurants are not included in this list.

10. Right to Party- R2P, Ferozepur Road.

R2P is a bar situated at Grand Walk. With a host of bars in Ludhiana, this is popular with the youngsters who desire the "right to party!" The owners have targeted the youth with its compelling atmosphere boasting of loud live music, so it's not really recommended for family dining. The menu offers very limited Indian, Mexican and Italian dishes. If you don't like loud music to the extent you can't hear yourself speak then this place isn't for you!

For innovativeness this scores 10/10. Situated inside the famous Verka Park on Ferozpur Road, this is an actual ex Air India Airbus A320 converted into a restaurant. The waiters dressed as cabin crew offer you an in-flight dining experience with a range of cuisine you'll remember and they'll make you feel just as special as the passengers on first class on the best of airlines! A noticeable drawback of this restaurant is the small table sizes but this is due to the lack of internal space which also hinders movement. Nevertheless it offers a variety of cuisine at affordable prices and it's a novel idea, so lands this one at terminal number 7.

5. Barbeque Nation, Rajguru Nagar.

A distinctive place with a unique idea. As its name suggests, Barbeque Nation is famous for its fresh barbequed and grilled food and that too, right on your table top! Yes that's correct, your starters such as chicken, mutton, fish and paneer are grilled by you, the customer - that is an experience to yearn for. It offers a multi-cuisine buffet but with a limited range of dishes.

1. Pirates of Grill, Ferozpur Road.

If you're a food lover, then Pirates of Grill is the place to visit. The all you can eat buffet at incredibly affordable prices offers both an extensive range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes and an adequate amount of desserts.  But hold on - the starters are barbequed right at your table top with a range of dressings and sauces to brush onto the starters to give it that desired glaze and taste, and giving you the chance to add your own touch! You get a serving of around 6 veg and 6 non-veg starters, some of which are served right at your table, such as the delectable grilled pineapple and flavorsome crispy corns. At lunch time you get a soft drink served on the house! Families with children would love it here as there's lots to choose from.

What makes it different from BBQ Nation is the ambience, which in my opinion really counts for an overall restaurant experience. Unlike BBQ Nation, Pirates of Grill offers a live band with a better and more diverse buffet. With it offering an abundance of great quality food at an excellent price, providing in-house entertainment with a live band and offering a wonderful experience, Pirates of Grill is definitely commanding the ship and puts itself in the leading position.
